This image is a golden toned monochromatic photo of a white rowboat and reflections. I had visited this area many times before but there always seemed to be things preventing me from presenting the subject in a simple, unobstructed way. But on this particular occasion, the soft lighting and still water enabled me to take advantage of the dark reflections and luminous qualities of the white boat and the diagonal lines added tension and interest to the composition.

I have been photographing for a long time. I originally worked in the traditional black and white darkroom process but eventually migrated to the digital darkroom. Among my influences are photographers such as Edward and Brett Weston, Minor White, Elliott Erwitt, Michael Kenna, Marc Riboud, Wynn Bullock, Paul Caponigro and many others. Exploration and discovery of both the urban and natural landscapes has led me on my haphazard photographic journey. Sometimes I notice things in my nearby environment, other times in my travels to places like the desert southwest and the California coast. Lately I seem to be drawn to more abstract work incorporating shadows, silhouettes and empty space. I am also becoming interested in the effects of time...
