This color landscape photograph was taken at Garrapata Beach, a few miles south of Carmel, California by Dave Gordon. The Big Sur coast of California extends along Highway 1 from Carmel to San Simeon with amazing views of the Pacific Ocean, cliffs, beaches and sea stacks.

I have been photographing for a long time. I originally worked in the traditional black and white darkroom process but eventually migrated to the digital darkroom. Among my influences are photographers such as Edward and Brett Weston, Minor White, Elliott Erwitt, Michael Kenna, Marc Riboud, Wynn Bullock, Paul Caponigro and many others. Exploration and discovery of both the urban and natural landscapes has led me on my haphazard photographic journey. Sometimes I notice things in my nearby environment, other times in my travels to places like the desert southwest and the California coast. Lately I seem to be drawn to more abstract work incorporating shadows, silhouettes and empty space. I am also becoming interested in the effects of time...
