Artist's Description

This colorful abstract photograph of a boat reflection was taken in the historic waterfront of New Bedford, Massachusetts. In the 1800's, New Bedford was considered to be the "Whaling Capital of the World" and gradually evolved into a commercial fishing port at the end of the whaling era. This image is a reflection of one of the many commercial fishing boats that works from the waterfront.

About David Gordon

David Gordon

I have been photographing for a long time. I originally worked in the traditional black and white darkroom process but eventually migrated to the digital darkroom. Among my influences are photographers such as Edward and Brett Weston, Minor White, Elliott Erwitt, Michael Kenna, Marc Riboud, Wynn Bullock, Paul Caponigro and many others. Exploration and discovery of both the urban and natural landscapes has led me on my haphazard photographic journey. Sometimes I notice things in my nearby environment, other times in my travels to places like the desert southwest and the California coast. Lately I seem to be drawn to more abstract work incorporating shadows, silhouettes and empty space. I am also becoming interested in the effects of time...
